plastic intake manifolds

Question:

The heads and block on 99/2000s are iron.   Were the heads aluminum on 96-98s?      Didn’t the 96-98s have plastic intake manifolds? Vic

Actually the ‘99-00s have aluminum heads and iron block.   Cobras have the aluminum block and heads.  And yes, the ‘96-98s have a plastic intake. -Ken Vortech S-trim on the way ‘99 Mustang GT (chrome yellow) Best trap speed 103.7 mph Best 60′ (street radials) 1.82   http://members.aol.com/yella99gt/home/HomeKD.html   (last updated 8/16/1999)

That’s what I get for believing Motor Trend.   They state it as iron/iron.     Hope I have better head gasket luck than I did with my iron block/alum head LT1… Vic 2kGT 5m blk

The 96-98 GT’s also have aluminum heads and an iron block. JAC 97 GT modified

I had the same problem on my 96 GT, at about 36,000 miles. I passed a line of cars going uphill, and as I pulled back into the right hand lane I saw a cloud in the rearview mirror. I had just sprayed everybody with coolant. Ford payed for the towing, the manifold replacement, plus new spark plugs and wires. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – I know that for a fact!  Last week a 94-95 Mustang GT pulled up beside me and we really got into it.  It was a really close race as I was only a couple of feet in front of him, but then I noticed he got off his and really slowed down.  I thought it was a cop or something.  I then looked at my rear view mirror and all I could see was smoke (steam), but at the time I didn’t know it was steam.  I pulled off the road, popped my hood and about 2 minutes lated the damned fire department showed up!  They all got their flashlights out to try and help me find out where my leak was coming from. No luck.  Finally I was able to get some more water and start the car.  When I got back to the engine, I noticed a steady stream of coolant coming from the bottom of my intake and really filling up that funny looking cavity on top of the block.  No way I could limp home with it leaking like that.  The next day I called the dealer and they had it towed and fixed before 4pm.  I couldn’t believe it!!!  I figured ford would take their time, especially on a recall item.  Oh and one more thing… ford will only replace the intake if it is cracked and up to 70,000 miles I think.  When ford puts the new one on they mark it up front with two yellow marks.  That’s how you can tell if one has been replaced. How many other 96-97 owners have had the same problem? The intake on the 4.6 doesn’t mate with the block and the heads are aluminum. As for safety I know the 96-97 models had a recall on them due to spontaneous leaking.  I believe the problem has been corrected for the newer models. JAC 97GT modified

Very safe.  Very well sealed.  Bores are very smooth, making more power.  Your Mother would approve of it, I’m sure. Kindly keep it Country, JD
